Power of Yes
December 25th 2006 02:32
A while ago I read Danny Wallis’s book ‘The Yes Man’; a book that changed my life forever. Basically, it’s the true story of what happens when the author decides to go experimental, and say Yes to everything.
The results of this are incredible. He meets with the school bully. He tries to start a fight with a monk for television. He ends up lying on his back, in the middle of Amsterdam, hands in the air trying to tickle the moon.
Now, it’s not like anyone could be expected to do exactly the same thing. I mean, sure it’d be great to do sometime, but maybe not in everyday life, just now. However, the importance of the message of the book, to say yes more, generally to life itself, cannot be underestimated.
If you’re open to change, change will happen. If you say yes more, you will go more places, try more things, have more fun, get in more trouble.
So go on… give it a shot.

YES!
I hadn't heard of this book but I just wrote a post on this very thing a few days back.
I am a very untrusting person. It is hard for me to grasp that there is goodness left in people, in humanity. I tend to be very hard to get to know offline. But the other night, I said yes to an experience that has changed my heart about so much. Just a chance encounter with a silly teenager at my local Wal-Mart at 1:30a.m.
I would normally have brushed this kid off and went my way. I didn't. I don't know why. But I didn't.
I am SO glad. This kid changed my entire perception of so many things that would be far too involved for a comment, but if you want to know how and what all went on...read the post, "A Kid Named Michael..." on my self-titled blog.
I have promised myself, in fact it's a new year's resolution, to say YES to more things I typically wouldn't.
My posts will reflect a lot of these experiences in 2007.
I will look for the book,
Thanks,
Voices~
