Saw 2 vs Eyes Wide Shut.
July 5th 2007 01:08
Spoiler Warning for both films!
Saw Three is the third in a highly popular series of horror films. Eyes Wide Shut is Stanley Kubrick’s final film, finished after his death.
Eyes shut is considered so explicit it can only be watched by persons ages eighteen and over. It contains gratuitous nudity, some fairly soft sex scenes, and a bit more Nicole Kidman than one would view on a regular basis.
Saw 2 is rated MA, which mean anyone can watch it, but fifteen year olds must be accompanied by an adult. It has a man shot through the head. It features a woman thrown into a pit of syringes, and shows her screaming and struggling in the pit, then pulling them out of her skin. It shows a woman trapped in a device that slices open her wrists, the gashes growing wider as she struggles to break free. We see a man beat peoples heads apart with a club covered in nails. We see an old man have his fingers broken before being beaten. We see a man slice a chunk off his own neck.
My question is – at what point did society become so fetishistically paranoid of what we were made to do, and so blindly conditioned to viewing the things we never should?

Probably should have been R rated also.
I like horror but I have no real sadistic tendancies.
I did see Eyes Wide Shut on television and concluded that it was one of those long winded deathly dull shows. The nudity was the only high point. We all know that Kubrik was having a dig at the Masons. Big deal.
The jury is still out on whether watching film influence behaviour. Some studies say yes others say no.

It's total hypocrisy... Eyes Wide Shut, I don't find to be offensive at all. Some simulated sex - big deal.
Saw, on the other hand, is a disturbing series.
Actually, I really enjoyed Eyes Wide Shut for some reason.

As for Eyes Wide Shut.....one of the worlds most boring movies ever. Even the nudity couldn't save it. That's ridiculous that a film that has a few soft porn scene's would get a more adult rating than a seriously violent flick.
