Myspace; It's not so bad...
October 3rd 2006 01:00
So, this blog is about alternative culture. Only when you immerse yourself in alternative culture, the only true alternative is mainstream culture. Right?
Or, whatever.
Anyway, I'm here to talk about the day that I discovered, like so many other 'alternative kids', the joys of mainstream culture. Some people discover it when their favourite band goes mainstream. Some people find that they actually do LOVE Big Brother.
Me, I found Myspace.
Now, anyone who has the Internet knows what Myspace is. Some of the nay sayers may simply label it Emoville. Whilst this is accurate to a degree, you will find that Myspace is a lot like a microcosm of culture itself. Filled with crap, with a couple of golden nuggets if you look in the right places.
Really though, in a nutshell, Myspace is an address book that does all the work for you. Nice, right?
So go on - next rubbish show that comes on, give it a look. Cos foraging around in the dirt, you find alto of gold, but you miss a couple of clouds and their silver linings.
BTW - Some nice ones here.
