Dead People Read Your Script 5: Martin Luther King
March 2nd 2007 14:04
Martin Luther King had a dream, yes we all know. And everyone, from every side of the political spectrum rush praise him. Good ol’ George Dubya himself has been quoted as saying
Nope. No way. Martin Luther King was a black man with a big mouth; something which made him very unpopular at the time. Now, the whole Black thing’s not such a big issue these days, (these days thay can almost run for President without being criticized by major political xenophobes) but there hasn’t been a real lot of sweetness given to minorities with big mouths in these enlightened times. Look at Aboriginal activists, or Muslim Activists. Like, they're just so loved...
What if the real Luther King popped up today? Started trying to look after the rights of black Americans? Think he’d be really popular?Think he'd be a fan of the way Bush handled Hurricane Katrina, or would he pull a Kanye? You think that any of these folk would be popular with today’s pollies? I think not.
If an Aboriginal Martin Luther King popped up, I doubt Honest John would welcome him with open arms.
When you’re dead, you’re a hero. When you’re a hero, you’re everyone’s hero. In other words, LuthorCorp is more than happy to praise the late Mr Kent, to the roaring support of the crowd.

“Honoring Doctor King's legacy requires more than building a monument, it requires the ongoing commitment of every American… So we will continue to work for the day when the dignity and humanity of every person is respected and the American promise is denied to no one.”
So everybody loves King. However, did King love everyone? In a world of keeping up appearances, it's easy to forget the true principles one may have pushed, in favor of a bland 'hero' image
If an Aboriginal Martin Luther King popped up, I doubt Honest John would welcome him with open arms.

Yet despite the fights he had on his hand he was a big fan of Mahatma Gandhi and studied his methods. Personally I would rather see an Aboriginal Martin Luther King or Gandhi than anything.
The common sense of their adherence to non violece was simple. If they had have promoted violence they would been arested and the cause discredited, but since they promoted peace it protected their cause.
Yes I think King would have blasted Bush just as he blasted Johnson for Vietnem.
