Holocaust Denial
February 7th 2007 03:26
Andrew Bolt denies Global Warming existed.
John Howard contests the stolen Generation.
Some dude on a forum tried to convince me that AIDS was a conspiracy.
Every time you have something big and nasty, you have someone who desperately needs to believe it doesn’t exist.
Enter Holocaust deniers. Those who claim the Holocaust didn’t happen, or was greatly over-exaggerated. Despite this practice being illegal in Germany, it’s certainly not an uncommon practice.
So, we all know what the act of holocaust denial entails. The real question is, why?
Is Patriotism the answer? The desire to believe in one’s country? We see Australians downplay our actions against Aboriginals all the time. Likewise England defend themselves against the impaction of mass colonization, America defends it’s treatment of… everyone, and the Japanese consistently justify their action in WWII. It’s easy to be a big fan of your country with a great sports team and a national food – but with oodles of dead Jews/Aboriginals/Englishmen/Africans under your belt, it’s a bit harder to still stand tall for God, King and Country.
When there’s a dark history, there’s always a fictional reality waiting for someone who can’t handle the truth.
