What Really Happened with Charles Manson?

An Example of Charles Manson in popular culture

Charles Manson is these days a very widely known name. This is due to his killings, the fame of his victims, and his flair for showmanship, and association with alternative cultures.

Manson had been in trouble with the law a good deal before his murders, but for predominantly minor misdemeanours. He began his career in music, but was never particularly renowned for musical talent, despite an association with LA fringe music culture, a result of a chance meeting with Brian Dawson of the Beach Boys.

His association with rock culture, through his obsession with the Beatles is one of the primary factors in his continuing fame, and dominance as a pop culture icon.

‘The Family’ was the name of his small group of teenagers with whom he instructed murders, including the best documented killing of Sharon Tate. With the killing of Sharon Tate, messages were written in blood on the walls with references to ‘Piggies’ – a Beatles song

Contrary to popular belief, he did not himself actually kill anyone directly.

The murders were committed for the purposes of executing an apocalyptic plan known as Helter Skelter, another Beatles song. The intention was to use the murders committed by ‘The Family’ to incite racial tensions, and ultimately racial war.

Manson remains an icon of pop culture. He has been consistently refused bail, though his next chance to qualify is in 2012.

My recommendation is to keep him there until he is fitted out for a pine box. He did not do any killing himself but when you think about it neither did Stalin. Pol Pot, Hitler or Mao.

Maybe Pol Pot did get his hands dirty once in a while.

ONe of the last times he requested parole he had swasticka on his head, so i think you've hit the likely scenario.

Did you know that Charles Manson was born to a teenage prostitute who did not know his father because he was a paying customer. She brought Manson home from hospital and put him in the corner like garbage, she turned tricks in front of him and despised him and told him so. She took him to the pub as a kid and could not afford a beer so offerred Charlie as a swap so she could booze it up. Then Charlie was sent to live with an aunt and uncle and his uncle abused him calling him a girl On his first day of school Charlie was sent dressed as a girl. Is it any wonder the guy is f**ked? It is no excuse for his devious deeds, but to truly understand a man you must walk a mile in his shoes. Charles Manson didn't get a chance in life, his mother should have aborted him saving him and his victims a lifetime of pain. Just don't be so quick to judge.

Anon.

It has been a while since i stuck this article together.

I'm quite sure the he had an unpleasent past. I agree I'm in no position to judge, but I can't say I disagree with his being in jail.

Was Charles Manson ever looked up to by our youth? At one particular point in time, yes. This would have been back around the late 80's and early 90's when D&, occult, satanism, and teen suicide was a big epidemic.

Is he looked up at our youth today? No and I'll explain why. I have a 19 year old who he and his friends have stopped by to visit a few times and one day when I had the television on, they were showing the new mugshot of Charles Manson.

They asked who that was and until I explained it to them, they just thought he was some old creepy child molester.

So basically, the people who once wore the Manson t-shirts when there were in vogue would be in their mid to late 30's today and most likely have matured and moved on in life. The youth of today typically look up to the 'gangsta' types, such as Marshall Mathers, Lil Wayne, Curtis Jackson and Jaceyon Taylor.

Sorry, I didn't know that little smiley face would come up when I tried to abbreviate Dungeons and Dragons.
